NOTE TO LISTENERS: For years I've been recording music under the name Land of Nod (in theory, at least -- there haven't been any official releases), but it turns out a drone band of the same name has existed since at least 1998. So I can't be Land of Nod. From now on, any music I recorded as Land of Nod will be released under the band name John Barleycorn.

John BarleycornThe Broomfield Variations
[COMING SOON] John Barleycorn is Broomfield gone digital, accompanied by robots with A.D.D. The resultant sound can be described as "lo-fi-hi-tek:" poppy, choppy, naïve, irresistable. As expected, the lyrics continue their excelsior trend -- certain songs seem so huge that it's as if Broomfield finds the words by playing connect-the-dots with the stars and singing what they spell.
.
SELECTED TRACKS FROM THE BROOMFIELD VARIATIONS:
What's Your Name? (2.8 Mb)
A Matter of Time (3.2 Mb)
Here I Go Again (2.5 Mb)
Lost Ark (2.6 Mb)
Wonderful Day (2.3 Mb)

Jeremy BroomfieldFear Not
Released in 1999, Fear Not starkly reflected the year of its birth, brimming with millennial tension, manic sensuality, and powerfully sad balladeering.

Ghostly melodies abound on this song cycle for y2k, and some of the lyrics seem frighteningly oracular; you don't even have to listen to "Here Come the Planes Again" to know that it's going to give you goosebumps. In channeling the sadness of the year before the new millennium, he has crystallized a feeling of doom shared by many members of his generation. But glum broodings about the end of the world are not the only fare offered here. The eclecticism of Broomfield's sound gives us the pulsing mania of "Insect Anthem," the pure pop glee of "The Scientists," and the soaring, triumphant keyboards of "Security in Silence."
