Millions of people want to devote some of their energy to activism, but are disenchanted with traditional avenues of protest. Marches are important, but as the corporate media ignores dissent and the government stifles its detractors, it becomes harder to reach people. Posters are a cheap, effective, and democratic way to get a message across. Unfortunately, most political posters are crap. We make simple, shocking, well-designed posters. They’re black and white, 8.5” x 11”, and they are not copyrighted, which means that if you can print from the internet, you can make as many copies as you want and start posting them anywhere. We don’t like catchy, oversimplified slogans – the bare facts are horrifying enough. Like all good agitprop, FRPs are intended to piss you off. Instead of doing our own research, we turn to the experts. For example, to make our death penalty poster, we contacted ten anti-death penalty groups and asked each to send us a list of the most upsetting statistics they know.

Because FRPs will make people angry enough to act, each poster will recommend actions (Senators to call, books to read, websites to visit, groups to join). Too many protest graphics are shoddy and rushed, favoring message over medium, ignoring the fact that a strong design radically amplifies the impact of a poster. FRP designs are stark, plain, and casual. We don't get wordy and we don't get precious. It is vital that protest graphics reach a wide audience. We are building a network of community organizations, high school groups, punk rock bookstores, and individuals like you.

Tell your friends about the project. Bring ten posters to your local independent record store. Give some to the kids on your street who have tons of energy and free time. But most of all, find a poster you like and put it up everywhere. Preaching to the choir may be satisfying, but it is not an effective way of changing the world. FRPs are directly targeted to places where radical voices are absent or unwelcome: malls, bus shelters, laundromats, telephone poles -- anywhere but the bulletin boards of liberal arts college dorms.
